With the help of your donation, New Center Council plans to renovate the existing New Center Park into a small-scale outdoor concert and concession venue.

The renovation will install the facilities needed to offer smaller, more frequent, Comerica TasteFest-style concerts spring through fall and will allow New Center Council to produce a summer movie series. The renovated park venue will feature a pub-style bar and outdoor grill, lawn and patio seating, wireless internet access, an outdoor fire pit, a newly installed sound system, and dedicated park restrooms.  Concerts and other events will be held during lunch hours, after work, and on weekends, including a weekly music series, such as Thursday night jazz and Friday night rock and roll.  The park will remain open during work hours on non-event days for public use.

Why should I donate?
Today, New Center Park is a developed green space located on the southwest corner of Second Avenue and West Grand Boulevard across from the Fisher Building.  In the early 1990s, the park was a successful concert venue that provided musical performances in the weekday afternoons and evenings.  These activities helped make New Center an exciting daytime urban district. 

Subsequent developments led to the removal of several bars and restaurants near the park, making it difficult to produce concerts without sufficient facilities.  Additionally, the lack of a covered stage, restrooms, secure fencing, and sound and lighting equipment have made it physically and financially prohibitive to host regular events over time at this location.  Your donation will directly fund the renovation of New Center Park and bring back seasonal entertainment to New Center.  

Concession and sponsorship revenue from the renovated Park will not only underwrite entertainment and food costs, but also create a dedicated funding stream to support New Center Council’s district enhancing programs.
