The Comerica
TasteFest is a five-day outdoor food and entertainment festival in
Detroit's New Center during the Fourth of July weekend. The event is
a family affair which offers free national and local talent on four
stages, over 40 Michigan restaurants selling "tastes" of their
specialties, free stage shows, activities for children, and a
marketplace of unique Detroit products and memorabilia. The Comerica
TasteFest is free and open to the public.
The festival is
supported by many of Detroit's top radio and television stations, as
well as the local print media. Over 500,000 people attend the event
each year from throughout southeastern Michigan and Ontario.
The Comerica
TasteFest is produced by the New Center Council, Inc. (NCC) a 501(c)3
nonprofit business organization dedicated to the development and
management of New Center as a vibrant, diverse and economically
healthy district. New Center is the northern anchor of Detroit's
Greater Downtown.
Since 1993, the
festival has generated $850,000 in profit that supports NCC
initiatives in the areas of public space maintenance, economic
development and planning, and youth and charitable programs.
In addition, NCC
has used Comerica TasteFest proceeds to help produce an award-winning
summer youth program at the local Fairbanks Elementary School. To
date, NCC has donated in excess of $300,000 to the Fairbanks
Elementary School for equipment and programs, and to produce the
summer youth program.
The Comerica
TasteFest is a recipe for success on many levels. It supports a vital
Detroit community, offers a great "City" experience for over 500,000
attendees, and provides a strong marketing vehicle for its sponsors
and partners.
